Thieves made off with an ATM after deliberately crashing a truck into a shop in Bridge of Weir, according to BBC reporting on the incident. The operation, reported in an article published on 18 August 2025, saw the criminals use the vehicle as a tool to breach the building and access the cash machine.
The method employed by the thieves — ramming a vehicle into the storefront — is a tactic that has been used in burglaries across the UK in recent years. Shop owners and managers should ensure ATMs are secured with heavy bolts or housed in reinforced housings, and consider deploying CCTV cameras covering all entry points and the ATM itself. Limiting cash held in machines and scheduling regular collections can also reduce the target’s appeal to thieves.
