Authorities in Scotland are searching for four masked individuals following attempted ATM raids at supermarkets in Glasgow and Edinburgh, according to reports published on 7 January 2026. In Glasgow, the attempted robbery caused substantial damage, leaving one store with a gaping hole in its structure. The suspects targeted multiple supermarkets across both cities in what appears to be a coordinated operation.
Despite the significant destruction inflicted on the targeted establishments, the thieves failed to successfully steal funds from the ATMs. Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the four suspects involved in the raids.
Businesses should ensure ATMs are regularly monitored and consider additional security measures such as surveillance systems and alarm systems to deter and respond to attempted thefts.
