A cable theft at Sevenoaks Primary School in Kent left hundreds of pupils unable to attend, according to BBC reporting from an article published on 31 August 2025. The theft of electrical cabling disrupted the school’s operations, preventing normal attendance.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of educational facilities to targeted cable theft, which remains a persistent problem for schools across the UK. Thieves target copper and other valuable metals, causing significant operational disruption and expensive repairs that drain already stretched school budgets. Schools and similar institutional facilities should ensure secure storage of electrical infrastructure, install perimeter fencing and CCTV monitoring, and conduct regular security audits to detect and deter theft.
