A ram-raid burglary targeted a newsagent in Canterbury, according to Kentonline reports published on 25 January 2024. A stolen vehicle was driven through the shop window, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to the property.
Scott Barham, 38, and two accomplices were involved in the incident, which was captured on CCTV footage. The damage was so severe that the owners, Richard and Anne Manuel, who had run St Stephens News for 40 years, decided to sell up and retire sooner than they had originally planned. The couple described themselves as devastated by the incident and its consequences for their long-standing business.
Businesses should ensure robust security measures, including reinforced windows and monitored CCTV systems, to deter and record ram-raid attempts.
