Five people have been arrested in Southampton and Totton in connection with a suspected £500,000 burglary conspiracy, according to reports published on 6 May 2026. The arrests are part of a wide-ranging investigation into a network suspected of targeting high-value equipment across Hampshire.
Hampshire officers conducted the arrest operations as part of efforts to dismantle what is believed to be a criminal network specialising in the theft of industrial machinery and plant equipment. The total value of losses linked to these thefts is estimated at £500,000.
Investigations are continuing to establish the full extent of the group’s activities and the fate of the stolen equipment.
Businesses storing valuable machinery and plant equipment should ensure secure storage, maintain detailed inventory records, and install security systems including CCTV and alarm systems.
